Heritage Rail Bikes Opens Next Weekend in French Lick

The countdown is officially on.

Heritage Rail Bikes opens next weekend at the French Lick Scenic Railway, bringing a brand-new outdoor adventure to southern Indiana beginning Saturday, July 18th.

The experience sends guests approximately 10 miles through Hoosier National Forest along the railroad tracks aboard specially designed electric-assisted rail bikes. Each excursion lasts about 90 minutes, giving riders a chance to enjoy the scenery, spend time together, and experience the rails in a way that is completely different from a traditional train ride.

A New Way to Experience the Rails

Rail biking puts guests directly on the tracks in an open-air vehicle designed specifically for railroad travel.

There is no steering required because the rails guide the bike along the route. Riders simply settle in, enjoy the surroundings, and experience the feeling of traveling down an actual railroad line with nothing separating them from the open air.

It combines the freedom of an outdoor ride with the history and atmosphere of the railway, creating an experience that feels familiar and completely new at the same time.

The Motor Does the Work

Despite the name, Heritage Rail Bikes is not designed to feel like a strenuous bicycle ride.

The French Lick bikes are electric-assisted, which means the motor provides most of the power needed to move along the tracks. Guests pedal gently as they ride, but the experience feels much closer to a leisurely cruise than a workout.

There are no difficult hills to climb, no need to be an experienced cyclist, and no pressure to maintain an intense pace. The electric system keeps the bike moving while guests enjoy the route.
